Senate Majority leader Dean Skelos caves on Gay Marrige

Posted 26 Jun 2011
Senate Majority leader Dean Skelos caved in to the wishes of speicial interest groups and Ny liberals and as a result, allowed the destruction of the tradition, and sanctity of the family.

Mr. Skelos did not have to allow the Same-Sex bill to come to the Senate floor for a vote. He could have stood up for the principles of New Yorkers. He could have stood up for the sanctity of marriage and religion. Mr. Skelos chose to take the easy way out and as a result, he has helped to turn New York State into a modern-day Sodom. In New York state, there are no more standards. there are no morals, or ethics. All we have in New York now is a dysfuntional society where people do whatever they want with no consequence or morality and a government whose members no longer rule by principle, but by the notion that they will do whatever ensures their position in power.

The Republicans in the New York State Senate need to remove Mr. Skelos from his position of power. He has shown that he is not a true leader, but a follower of whoever seems to scream the loudest. He chooses to ignore his morals and ethics in favor of doing whatever is politically expedient. He is the worst kind of a Republican. He is the Republican we put our trust in to stand up for our principles and values, only to have him stab us in the back.

This is the statement that Dean Skelos released explaining his decision to bring the vote to the floor.

"After many hours of deliberation and discussion over the past several weeks among the members, it has been decided that same sex marriage legislation will be brought to the full Senate for an up or down vote. The entire Senate Republican Conference was insistent that amendments be made to the Governor's original bill in order to protect the rights of religious institutions and not-for-profits with religious affiliations. I appreciate the Governor's cooperation in working with us to address these important issues and concerns. As I have said many times, this is a very difficult issue and it will be a vote of conscience for every member of the Senate."

This statement says nothing. It explains nothing. Did the Republicans even get anything in exchange for doing away with hundreds of years of morality. Not from what I see.
